You can read more about Telos Ignite in this press release. But you may need to know a bit more about the application process and the intention behind Telos Ignite.

In this article, we will explore the different ways that Telos Ignite will support a firestorm of development on Telos native and the Telos EVM. Then we will share some application tips from AJ Dinger, head of Business Development at the Telos Foundation.

Overall, you will come out of this article to better understand the Telos Ignite grants program. And you will have everything you need to head over to the Telos Ignite page and submit your application!

It’s time to dive into one of the best opportunities for crypto developers, Telos Ignite!

The Low-down On Telos Ignite.

Let’s start with the basics — what exactly is Telos Ignite?

Telos Ignite is a competitive grants program to encourage development for tools and dApps on Telos native and the Telos EVM. 12 million TLOS in funding will be made available over the next four years, ensuring consistent growth and development over time.

Telos Ignite works on a milestone basis, with regular check-ins to ensure that clear and achievable timelines are on the front of everyone’s mind. Once those milestones are met, more TLOS is released to projects.

Developers will receive funding in TLOS to bring their projects to life. But Telos Ignite goes beyond funding. Mentorship, networking, and direct access to Telos Core Developers are all on the table with Telos Ignite.

And with the innovative and lightning-fast Telos EVM well into its launch, it’s key to make development on Telos as attractive as possible.

“The Telos EVM went live in November, and we’re now starting to see the fruits of that work,” said AJ Dinger, head of Business Development at the Telos Foundation. “When we think about where we have all this room for growth, I think it’s done by third parties contributing to the ecosystem. And Telos Ignite is a great way to help accelerate that development.”

Telos Ignite presents an excellent opportunity for developers to receive funding and support. But how does Telos Ignite benefit the Telos ecosystem and developers simultaneously?

Let’s find out.

Why Telos Ignite is critical for your project and the Telos ecosystem.

Telos Ignite puts forward the most performant EVM — Ethereum Virtual Machine — and invites developers to build. And your effort will be rewarded whether you plan to create a brand new dApp or migrate an existing Solidity or C++ application to the Telos EVM.

“Telos’ differentiating factor of scalability is huge,” said Justin Giudici, Acting CEO of the Telos Foundation. “If you plan to succeed, then you’re going to hit these scalability issues on any other blockchain eventually. But now, we’re in a space where we’re offering a competitive grants program on Telos, a platform that you can scale on. That’s huge.”

Projects will begin to experience the incredible performance of Telos native and the Telos EVM and its ground-breaking qualities like low gas fees and no front-running. And the projects and tooling that come out of successful Telos Ignite projects will also benefit the broader Telos ecosystem.

“We’re focusing on our building blocks,” explained Giudici. “Your Gnosis Safe types, your NFT marketplaces, your DeFi. You need these building blocks. Then on top of that, you can run things like metaverses. But those metaverses will require an NFT marketplace and DeFi to trade various assets. So I think there’s an incredible opportunity here if you are offering those key utilities that the network requires to build a thriving economy.”

Our Telos community has seen the excitement and influx of transactions that OmniDex, the first native DEX on the Telos EVM, has brought to the community. Telos Ignite will provide the resources for many more critical dApps to deploy on the Telos EVM. What’s more, Telos Ignite will provide the vital tools and infrastructure that dApp developers need.

“We still need a lot of toolboxes and tools for the EVM, because it’s so fresh,” said Kersten Wirth, Project Manager with the Telos Core Developers. “We need developers to help us in building up all those kinds of tools that you need. Tools like statistics, and oracles, and all those things.”

With that in mind, let’s explore some of the top application tips that developers should note before applying to Telos Ignite.

Keep these tips in mind when you apply for Telos Ignite.

First off, explained Dinger, the critical tooling and dApp needs would take priority in the early stages of Telos Ignite. “If you’re the tenth of something that we already have, it’s probably going to get less consideration than something that’s brand new and is unique to the ecosystem.”

So your first tip? Bring all the innovation you can muster to your application, and keep your eye out for the most pressing tooling needs.

Second, projects should ensure that they provide as much detail as possible. Dinger noted that information about the team and any existing code weighs heavily on the application.

“LinkedIn and GitHub are the ones that we’re looking at to see what the team looks like and what their experience is. So while this is optional, I would highly recommend that you provide some links to bios. Or if that’s in the website that you’ve built, that’s great too.”

So your second tip is to build trust by linking out to your team bios and code.

Finally, your third tip is to be realistic about the timeline and funding you need to complete your project. This is a crucial part of the application, Dinger noted.

“We want to understand when your minimum viable product will be ready. And also, really understand the process and timeline for what you’re aiming to build. That goes hand in hand with the budget. So I would say be judicious about the amount that you ask for because that will be considered pretty closely.”

So your third and final tip is to be upfront and transparent about your timeline and budget.
